Save the Date, October 22, 2005 7:pm. Annual Fall meeting @ GRYC.

The Grand River Sailing Club Regatta has come and gone in a fury.  A big thank you to Louise Mills and all the volunteers for organizing once again a successful regatta!  A special added bonus was having trophy presenters Greg McGuire and Tim Jackett present the daily awards.  We also had Cal Agor from West marine stop by and provide additional gift bags from West Marine for our raffle. Thank you Cal!  Board trustees Cathy Newpher and John Allin had a good showing for the blow boats, and Jim and John from Grand River rigging volunteered their time and services for a new event called Hillbilly Horseshoes!  Competition was so fierce contestants even played the championship rounds in the rain.  Russ Krock from Shock and Awe out of Sandusky won the event.

Congratulations to all our members that did well at our regatta, including Colin Mills and his team on Wish for being our overall winner.  Team Wish also won the right to head to Annapolis next spring and compete in the National Hospice Cup Regatta.

The Cruising fleet has had a busy season too, one of their last events for this year, not to be missed, is the Clam Bake this Saturday October 1st at GRYC.  Please make reservations or to get more info contact Del and Becky Gladrow at 216-371-3658.

The Fall General Membership meeting is scheduled for Saturday October 22 at GRYC beginning at 7pm.  Please plan on attending, and bring a goodie to share.

The week before the General Meeting, our very own resident artist, Kathy Christian, will be having her open house. “Expressions of Impressions,” will be on Saturday October 15, from 6-8pm at the Solon Fine Arts Center, 6315 SOM Center Road in Solon.  Contact Kathy at 440-543-1173 for more details.

One of the last events of  the season before the Awards Banquet is Terri and Phil’s Halloween Party,  October 29, 7:30-?, 6061 Taylor Rd. Leroy. The theme this year is the 1950’s and the 1970’s.  My wife cannot decide between a wool poodle skirt or polyester leisure suit.

From the category ‘it’s a small world,’ while racing in Port Credit and then Toronto for the J 105 North Americans, we caught up with friends Peter and Vicki Hall who own the J105 Jamaica Me Crazy.  It turns out that they are good friends with past GRSC members Dave and Deanna Hoops. The Halls, having sailed on both Avalon and Windswept, and will pass along hellos from all of us here at GRSC when they see the Hoops at the end of October.

Finally, the invitations for the award banquet will be arriving sometime in early October. Please plan on having a fun time while supporting your club for its only semi formal event. It has always been a great party, and good opportunity to see everyone one more time.

I hope to see the membership at the October Meeting and Awards Banquet in November!

Till Then,

Robert Mock
