New Member Information

Thank you for your interest in the Grand River Sailing Club (GRSC). GRSC has approximately 50 members from the myriad of dockage and clubs along the Grand River and nearby marinas and yacht clubs. Since its incorporation in 1981, the club has organized hundreds of sailboat racing and cruising events.

Racing

Races are followed by libations and BBQs.

GRSC supports and follows guidelines of the following organizations, I-LYA (Inter-Lake Yachting Association), PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Formula) and US Sailing. The GRSC racing fleet includes both 'Spinnaker' and 'JAM' (jib and main only) fleets.

Our course consists of eight turning marks and two starting marks to permit a variety of courses. This enables the race committee to select a course well suited to the prevailing wind and sea conditions on any given day.

The races are scheduled around the major Lake Erie Regattas to allow our members to attend these events without sacrificing a position in the GRSC Race Series. Each racer serves a mandatory stint as committee boat, determined by lottery. The club has its annual Regatta in August. Informal holiday and "fun" races are sponsored with invitations to all club members. When volunteers can be found, "novice" race classes are held.

Cruising
The cruisers usually sponsor an annual cruise around Independence Day weekend in July, picnics, steak roast, and other social events.

The club publishes the River Debris, a monthly newsletter, and sponsors four general membership parties, including the Spring General Membership dinner/meeting, Fall Banquet (with new officers election), and the Regatta Opening Party.

If you are a prospective new member to GRSC, we require that you be "sponsored" by a member and club officer. You must present your membership application at a GRCS board meeting. We extend an open invitation to anyone interested in joining GRSC to attend any social gathering or meeting.

Interested? Just email us with your name, phone number and your particular interest in the club. A club member will then contact you soon.
