New Member Information

Thank you for your interest in the Grand River Sailing Club (GRSC). GRSC has approximately 90 members from the myriad of dockage and clubs along the Grand River and nearby marinas and yacht clubs. Since its incorporation in 1981, the club has organized sailboat racing and cruising events.

Races are held on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Wednesday races are followed by burgers and beer at the Beachcomber/Horseshow Grand River pub. Sunday races are followed by a "beer ball gathering" at Grand River Marine East (old Sailing Center) where you will find race results. GRSC supports and follows guidelines of the following organizations, I-LYA (Inter-Lake Yachting Association), PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Formula) and US Sailing. The GRSC racing fleet includes both 'Spinnaker' and 'JAM' (jib and main only) fleets. Our course consists of eight turning marks and two starting marks to permit a variety of courses. This enables the race committee to select a course well suited to the prevailing wind and sea conditions on any given day. The races are scheduled around the major Lake Erie Regattas to allow our members to attend these events without sacrificing a position in the GRSC Race Series. Each racer serves a mandatory stint as committee boat, determined by lottery. The club has its own Regatta in August to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Holiday "fun" races are sponsored with invitations to all club members. And when volunteers can be found "novice" race classes are held.

The cruisers usually sponsor a 2 week cruise in July, a picnic, along with other social events.

The club publishes a monthly newsletter and sponsors four general membership parties; Spring General Membership meeting, Election of New Officers (Octoberfest), Welcome Regatta Party.

If you are a prospective new member to GRSC, we require that you be "sponsored" by a fellow member and club officer. You must present your application at a GRCS board meeting. We extend an open invitation to anyone interested in joining GRSC to attend any social gathering or meeting. Please drop us a post card with your name, phone number and your particular interest in the club. A club member will then contact you to give you detailed information.
